You Are Injured On Someone Else's Property?

Property owners have a duty to keep their properties safe in order to protect anyone who has the right to be there. That includes the mail carrier, folks walking on the sidewalk, and invited guests.

For instance, if you are invited to your injured at your brother-in-law’s home and you are injured on a broken step leading to his front door, you have the right to be compensated for your injuries if the injury happened because he was negligent. Damages that can be recovered include payment of medical bills, loss of work, out of pocket expenses such as pain medications and damaged clothing. If the injury is severe, you may receive damages for pain and suffering.

While none of us want to bring a legal action against a friend or relative, accidents can and do happen. Property owners usually carry home owners’ insurance that provide coverage for just that kind of accident.

Shops and businesses have the same duty to the customers who come onto their property. If that duty is breached and an injury results, there may be recourse for compensation.
